To provide some background on myself, I graduated from Penn State University in
1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. I am a licensed
Professional Engineer in the states of Tennessee and Virginia and have run my
own business for 34 years. I work with structures, mainly smaller residential
and commercial structures as that is what we have in East Tennessee. In addition
to my engineering experience, I used ot own and manage 90 apartment units.
So I know a little bit about buildings and how ot take care of them.
I have owned in the DBR since 2006. I was on the Turnover Commitee in 2007.
I previously served on the DBR Board of Directors between 2014 and 2020 with
another short term between October of 2021 and April of 2022. So I am very
familiar with the isues and the history of the DBR.
As a long time owner and previous Board member, I have more knowledge and
unique insight as to what is going on at the DBR. I actualy know what is going
on. Most owners do not and that is a big problem. I won't go into the garbage
and misinformation that is out on Facebook. Simple fact is we need better
and more communication. We need to get back to having open Board meetings
where owners can ask questions, provide input, and get answers. We need ways
to get information to ALL owners, not just through social media sites that
many owners (like myself) choose not to be on.
One problem we have had with past Boards is personality conflicts. I can
say straight out that I have not had personality conflicts with the Board
members I have served with. I have worked with Renata and Patrick who are
on the current Board and while we may not have agreed on things, it was
never personal. I have proven I can work with anyone. I am concerned
there may be personality conflicts among some who are running for the Board.
There is no place for that. We are in this together. The focus needs to be
on doing what is right for the good of all of the DBR owners, not just
a select few. Let's elect individuals who are diverse thinkers and willing
to work togetner to aevelop solutons to the problems and issues we face.
When people run for any office, you hear comments about why they are great
or what they can do to make things better. I am not sure people realize how
much the next Board is going to have to deal with. The list is huge and too
long to list here. The simple fact is we are in a big hole at the moment and
there are many things that need to be dealt with. I hate to be the bearer of
bad news but we are looking at significant expenditures over the next few years
no matter which way we go. In reality, the next Board is going to have to do
things no Board has ever had to do. Who are you going to trust to take on
these challenges? That is what you are being asked to decide. I have
demonstrated my abilities over the years. I know the bullding and its issues.
I have responded when owners have contacted me. I have actively participated
in and spent significant amounts of time on Association business.
I ask that you allow me to do so again with your vote.
