This is a list of five four candidates who can be expected to work

Of the four recommended candidates, two were elected and two were not.

The Case For Voting For Only Four Board Members
There are five positions on the board, and we get five votes. Perhaps we have four clear favorites.
What do we do about our fifth vote?
Remember that we are not voting for five candidates because we hope that our favorite
five will win. We are voting for four candidates and possibly a fifth hoping that our
favorite four will win and are not as concerned about who the fifth elected candidate is.
Decades ago, my then-girlfriend and I were discussing some bond issue proposals that were
on the state ballot. “No, I won’t vote for all of them, because I don’t want them all to pass.”
As if her one vote on each one would decide passage or defeat of all of them! She should have
(as I did), when considering one bond issue, made the best guess about how the others would be
voted on, then voted yes or no accordingly.
Don’t make the same mistake. Given that others will vote in various ways, what should we do
ourselves?
Suppose our favorite four are expected to have a narrow majority, and some of the other
candidates are very close to receiving enough votes to defeat them. Vote for the four and
choose one additional for a fifth vote, and you may be pushing the vote total for that one high enough to cost us a seat of the favorite four. That’s bad. There is no compensating benefit to selecting one of the others to fill that fifth seat.
That’s why we should vote for the favorite four candidates, only, if we have four clear favorites.
Campaign Statements From Existing Board Members and Other Candidates
Never be content with passion and a stated intent as a rationale for choosing a candidate.
Instead, seek corroborated skill and a track record of actually having done things meritoriously.
Here's an incomplete list of concerns about which you should ask
existing and former board members, current in 2025 but the principles are timeless:
- Lack of access to financial information by all board members, leading to preventable
frustration of the minority (and heroic) members
- No clearly specified chain of custody of money from assessment revenue to repairs and renovations
- Refusal to seek legal remedy/restitution for known negligent financial management
by prior board members
- Complaints by board members of major workload incompatible with refusal to accept
volunteers to committees to assist with such workload, including my being rejected
from the Legal Committee
- Poor communication, including but not limited to unexplained failure to purchase a six-digit
text-message number that can be used for mass communications easily and quickly,
as to announce hurricane damage
- Lack of known negotiations with our neighbor to the south about a shared
coaxial or fiberoptic cable so that we can offer its hotel seminar videos on our
room TV sets (and obtain a good customer base) if the hotel decides to offer it to us
when it has too few rooms for a large convention (we need to hurry this because it’s
easier to bury cables in torn-up ground than in a finished building)
- Known difficulty with Tomoka, including but not limited to mismanaged/lost payments
by us owners and lack of chain-of-custody/responsibility of repair complaints (lack of
repairs themselves is not always the fault of Tomoka, but failure to respond at all to
meritorious calls for repairs is)
- No known interest by the board in trying to revise the governing documents, by-laws, and
easement agreement to take effect after the developer's departure, to prevent legal and
accounting messes in the future
